We should start calling Open category as RESERVED category !

I was trying to find out general details about BMC election such as total number of seats, type of reservations , website etc. while doing that I came up with some shocking figures and some stupid rules which I thought should share with world.

There are in total 227 seats for Mumbai Corporation(BMC). Out of these 227, as per new law incorporated by government 50% is reserved for woman open category. Out of rest 50%, few percents are reserved for SC and OBC category and few are reserved for OBC woman. After doing all the calculation, only 77 seats are available for Open general category(Male).

227 Seats

77 out of 227!

Not only this, to make it even worse, selection of all these so called reserved seats such as 50% woman, OBC etc will be done on the basis of Lottery. So out of 227 seats, no one knows which one will be reserved until lottery is done.

I really can’t take this method, a person who has worked for 5 years in a particular area and now realized that he can’t be contested from the same area because his seat is reserved! I understand, there are pros and cons in any process which gets introduced in country like India, but in above process, I find more cons than pros.

1. Do you think said system is correct?
2. Do you think 50% reserved for woman Open category excluding of OBC woman is justified?
3. Are we promoting family politics here ?
4. Is there any new way we can think of putting better system?

I really feel pity for party decision makers who are going to make this crucial decision leaving behind so many unhappy aspirant.

PS: I am of the opinion that woman should get equal number of  seats(50%) to contest but not the way it is at the moment.
